Appointments
Getting Started
The first step is to call and leave me a message on my confidential voice mail (650) 327-3003.
I will call you back and briefly discuss with you your concerns. If we both agree we will set up an initial
appointment to give us the opportunity for you to find out whether you are comfortable with me and my style
of working and for me to see whether I think I can be of help to you. Figuring this out may take
1 or 2 sessions, but in some cases may take a few more sessions.
Sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes long. We usually meet once a week or more often.
Fees
My fee is typical for psychologists with practices in Palo Alto.
I have a limited number of sliding scale slots.
Insurance
I am on the panel of providers ("in network") with ValueOptions through which I
mainly see Stanford students. I have a limited number of space reserved for ValueOptions members.
For other insurance companies, I am an "out of network provider." If you have a PPO
plan you will pay out of pocket for my services. Upon request I will give you a monthly statement which
you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
Limitations of using insurance: Using insurance
to help cover the cost of psychotherapy makes therapy financially a possibility for many people. However,
using insurance has many drawbacks. You lose some of your privacy in that I must give you a mental disorder diagnosis and have to communicate it
with your insurance company. Usually I am required to report periodically on you, your treatment
and progress made. The insurance company may deny services or may only allow for a limited number of sessions
or may only cover crisis treatment.
For these reasons many people choose not to use insurance while seeking psychotherapy.
We can discuss these concerns when we meet.
Payment
Payment is due at each session, unless other arrangments are made in advance.
I accept cash or checks.

about my fees and current availability.
